Veterans Day Free Meals


November 11 is Veterans Day, and America’s active military members and veterans can enjoy a peaceful day of rest and contemplation. They can also enjoy some of the perks of having served, such as free or steeply discounted meals at restaurants across the country.

Although it was unusual for dining establishments to offer free meals to veterans in the past, today’s restaurants are all about encouraging veterans and their families to come out in droves on their special day.

Some restaurants offer 100% free meals for veterans, while others do buy-one-get-one-free deals or free appetizers with the purchase of a full meal. Many of these restaurants are on the honor system, and they simply take the patrons’ word regarding military status, but some insist on seeing current or former military ID at the register. Here are a few of the highlights for servicepeople trying to find Veterans Day deals on their meals.

By far, the best deals to be found on Veterans Day are the free full-size meals some restaurants offer. These establishments go all-out to give a free entrée to veterans on November 11, though some conditions may apply for eligibility and maximum value:

Enjoy a free meal from a special menu available to veterans and active military. Military ID or proof of past service is required.

Buffalo Wild Wings
All U.S. locations are offering “Wings for Heroes,” which entails a free order of wings and side of fries to active and retired armed services members.

All active-duty and retired military can stop in for a free “thank you” meal. Choose from 10-piece traditional wings, 10-piece boneless wings, a Hooters Burger, buffalo chicken salad or buffalo chicken sandwich. Hooters also invites guests to purchase a 2018 Hooters Calendar in support of Operation Calendar Drop. The restaurant will ship the calendars to U.S. military deployed in the United States and around the world.

On November 10, veterans and active military can enjoy a free stack of red, white and blue pancakes. Also, for the entire month of November, IHOP will donate $1 from every purchase of red, white and blue pancakes to the Fallen Patriots Foundation.

Logan’s Roadhouse
Bring your proof of service, and take your pick from eight free meals. This offer is good from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Olive Garden
Head to an Olive Garden on Veterans Day for a free meal, which includes an entrée from a special Veterans Day menu, plus unlimited soup or salad and garlic breadsticks. Although ID is required to claim the discount, Olive Garden has a long list of documents it considers acceptable, such as a military earnings statement.
